Setting Up The Biomat
1. Choose an optimal location to set up your Biomat. It can be used on your bed, a massage table, a sofa or on the floor.
2. Lay the Biomat flat with the crystal side up.
3. Plug the control box into the Biomat before plugging the control box into the wall.
4. Turn the Biomat by pressing the “Power On/Off” button. Note: The queen and king size Biomats have dual controls so you can choose different settings for the left and the right sides of the bed.
5. A timer on the control box allows you to set how many hours the Biomat will stay on. This is an excellent feature for cold nights that allows you to warm up and then shuts off so you can sleep comfortably over night.
6. Place the cotton cover that was included in your purchase over the Biomat. This creates more reflection power and will protect your Biomat as well as protect you from getting burned. Additionally, you can place a sheet, a thick cotton comforter, or featherbed on top of the Biomat for added comfort. Be sure to use only natural fibers. A Quantum Energy Pad is made specifically for this purpose and can be purchased through your distributor. Made of bio-clay memory foam and a soft microfiber cover that is resistant to bacteria, the Quantum Energy Pad is the perfect compliment to the Biomat.
7. There is no need to wait for the Biomat to heat up as the beneficial effects are immediate. The conductive heat properties of the Biomat will heat up more effectively once you are laying on it. Alternatively, you can cover it with pillows or a heavy blanket to warm it up more effectively before you lay on it. This is an excellent way to warm up your bed before getting into it.
8. If you enjoy sleeping in a dark room, cover the control box with a hand towel to block the light.
Temperature Settings
The Biomat offers different types of therapies depending on the temperature setting and duration.
On the high settings, it is similar to a sauna treatment, and can be used for detox, chronic pain, and body temperature elevation. A high temperature treatment normally lasts 10-60 minutes.
On a medium setting, it causes little or no sweating, and can be used for deep relaxation, stress relief, and improved circulation. This is a good place to start, and also a good option when the Biomat is combined with other therapies, such as massage or acupuncture.
On a low setting, it can be used for overnight sleeping, and most people report better quality sleep this way. We also recommend the quantum energy pad when the mat is used for sleeping, as this makes it much softer and reduces pressure points. The Biomat produces more negative ions on the low settings, because it is not devoting as much power to the infrared function. These ions are transferred to your body through conduction, which helps to elevate serotonin levels in the brain and combat free radicals in the body.
Please use the following as a rough guide to the benefits you can expect at different settings. Of course, each person is different, so the most important thing is to experiment with the settings and durations and find what works best for you.
Negative Ion Therapy
No heat setting
Safe for extended use
The negative ion setting is cooling and refreshing to your body. This setting allows you to receive all of the benefits of negative ion therapy and amethyst conduction without the far infrared heat. To access this setting simply press the Power On button. You will see blue flashing lights indicating the negative ion function is on.
Blue Settings
95-104˚F / 35-40˚C
Safe for extended use
The two blue settings enable negative ion therapy plus gentle, broad-spectrum heat. The first blue setting is ideal for people sensitive to heat. The blue settings are ideal for short-term to overnight use as an aid to encourage deep relaxation, regenerative sleep, and boosting energy. These settings may also relieve headaches, jet lag, and indigestion, although these indications are not approved by the FDA. To access these settings press the Power On button and then the Temperature Up setting either once or twice.
Green Settings
113-122˚F / 45-50˚C
Sessions from 30 minutes to 2 hours
The two green settings provide negative ion therapy plus subtle, warming far infrared ray penetration. This setting is ideal for increasing circulation. You may also find that these settings increase muscle flexibility and enhance sexual vitality, although these indications are not approved by the FDA. To access these settings press the Power On button and then the Temperature Up setting until you see the green lights turn on.
Gold Settings
131-140˚F / 55-60˚C
Sessions from 20 minutes to 90 minutes
The two gold settings provide negative ion therapy plus deep-penetrating warmth to temporarily relieve minor muscle pain, minor joint pain and stiffness, joint paint associated with arthritis, muscle spasms, minor sprains, minor strains, minor muscular back pain; encourage relaxation and address stress and tension by relaxing the muscles. You may also find that these settings encourage better circulation, relieve chronic pain, cleansing and metabolic waste removal, relieve stress and anxiety, elevate mood, and facilitate deep meditation although these although these indications are not approved by the FDA. To access these settings press the Power On button and then the Temperature Up setting until you see the green lights turn on.
Red Settings
149-158˚F / 65-70˚C
Sessions from 10 minutes to 1 hour
The two red settings provide negative ion therapy in addition to maximum far infrared sauna-like treatment. The high-heat settings are ideal for relieving minor muscle pain, minor joint pain and stiffness, joint paint associated with arthritis, muscle spasms, minor sprains, minor strains, minor muscular back pain; and relaxing muscles. You may also find that these settings encourage help to facilitate natural weight loss, strengthen the cardiovascular system, and assist in facilitating detoxification, although these although these indications are not approved by the FDA.
*NOTE: Use the red settings for periods of 10 to 60 minutes, maximum.
The following feature is specific to Single Controllers for the Professional Biomat. When the temperature on the single controller is set anywhere between 122 F to 158 F – the controller will run for 3 hours at that selected temperature, then automatically, the temperature will gradually start to go down until it reaches 113 F. When the temperature selections of 95 F , or 104 F , or 113 F are selected with timer settings of 2 hr, 4 hr, 8 hr or 12 hr, the temperature and timer selection will stay as selected and will not automatically change or lower itself.

Tips and Suggestions
- Start slowly with 10-30 minute sessions and gradually increase temperature and duration.
- Increase water intake before and after Biomat use.
- Use the Biomat with natural fabrics (cotton or bamboo) as synthetic fabrics may hinder the benefits.
- Cover with a cotton towel or purchase a waterproof cover to keep your Biomat sanitary and dry.
- Use with a Richway’s Quantum Energy Pad for added comfort and to enhance the benefits of the Biomat with a tourmaline layer.
- Keep your head cool by using the Amethyst and Tourmaline Pillow or lifting it off of the mat. It is important not to over heat your head, as this can be dangerous.
- Cover yourself with a natural fiber blanket to increase the therapeutic benefit by retaining your body’s heat.
Many Biomat users report dramatic benefits from incorporating half-hour power sessions for 3-5 times per week on the highest red settings. Remember to listen to your body – don’t go any longer or higher than you are comfortable with. The lower settings over time can create similar results as the higher settings because the effects are cumulative.
Begin by creating a calm, tranquil and private space in a quiet room in your home. Some mellow, relaxing music can help calm the nerves and cover any outside extra noises that may interfere with your peaceful and healing atmosphere; headphones are an excellent way to shut out outside noises. You may want to turn off the ringer on your phone and turn down your answering machine so you will not be disturbed.
After using your Biomat a few times and slowly increasing the temperature and length of time for your sessions, you could be ready to try a higher temperature for a deeper therapeutic session. You might want to cover up with a few towels or heavier blankets (natural fiber) to allow your body to absorb more far infared rays and induce a healthy false fever which can have healthy benefits for your immune system.
As with all healthy habits, consistency is the key. A half hour session before bed is ideal to prepare your body for the deepest, regenerative sleep. As with starting any sort of health or fitness program, you may want to consult your physician or health care practitioner first.
Start gradually, in small doses, and your body will become more accustomed to using the far infrared light energetics in the way your body’s innate intelligence knows how to do. All settings are therapeutic.
